Curatorial Statement : About the Exhibition

A Choreographed Luminous Landscape.

Inspiring Audience to Emotionally Connect with Van Gogh's Creative Mind.

'A Day in the Life of Van Gogh' is a site-specific contemporary light art piece by lighting artist Wijnand Van Der Horst. An abstract luminous landscape is created within Van Gogh Museum that leads us to associate with the master’s tremendous colourful mind. In search of the immateriality of light, colour dynamics and visual translation of music sensations, Van Der Horst intends to evoke layers of emotions and further challenge our cultivated way of looking at an artwork. The 20-minute choreographed light art piece with soundscape will take audience to experience an immersive journey that connects with the master’s creative mind throughout a day.

Artistic Pursuit : Emotion. Association. Immateriality.

This art piece is a continuous investigation of Van Der Horst’s on-going interest in light art, after his previous research project Colourworks. He embraces light as an autonomous medium to uncover the creativity in art, constantly explores how coloured light could influence emotions, and aims to discover audience’s references with colours, which involves throbbing imageries and visual dynamics that go beyond materiality. By experimenting the unexpected interplay of coloured light, Van Der Horst managed to create his own unique emotional palette in the creation of contemporary light art.
